NTL BASEBALL: SAYRE CLOSES 2025 WITH FIRST WIN OF SEASON (May 17, 2025)

Valley Sports Report
LAPORTE, Pa. — Sayre's misfortunes continued in the completion of a game suspended by darkness earlier in the season, but the Redskins closed the 2025 campaign on a high note with its first victory of the season, a 4-3 win over Sullivan County here Saturday afternoon in non-league baseball action.

The Redskins, who blew a nine-run lead in the top of the seventh, only to tie the game at 13-13 in the bottom of the seventh, gave up two runs in the top of the ninth inning to drop a 15-13 decision.

"Sullivan came out to play and finished out the roll they were on before the game got suspended," said Sayre coach Todd Green. "We came out flat and couldn't come back."

In the regularly-scheduled game, junior Karter Green turned in a strong pitching performance to lead Sayre to the win.

"We jumped out right off the get-go," said Green. "It was nice to see some fire in the boys. Of course, they came back to tie us up.

"Karter (Green) threw a great end-of-season game for us and took us to the final inning," he noted. "Shane Strickland came in and finished off the strong performance.

"It was nice to see the fire we knew the kids had in them to finish out a game strong and finally come away with a win.

"Can't say the season was much to brag about, but with the season comes a lot of character building," added Green. "In the end, I will always be proud of these young men, regardless of a record."

Sullivan County 15, Sayre 13 ... 9 innings
Sayre built a 12-3 lead through six innings only to have Sullivan County rally for a 15-13 win in a game that began on April 4 and was suspended due to darkness after eight innings.

The Redskins scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning in a rally that included an RBI single by Jordan Brown.

Jamier Kole and David Hall started off the bottom of the second inning with singles, but senior Nick Pellicano's sharp line drive was snared by the Sullivan County shortstop and turned into a triple play.

Sayre added two runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead, and two more in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-0.

The Griffins plated three unearned runs in the fifth inning to close the gap to 7-3, but Sayre answered with four runs in the home half of the inning in a rally capped by a two-=RBI single by Karter Green.

Sayre tacked on a run in the home half of the sixth to take a 12-3 lead.

The Griffins took advantage of three base on balls, three hit batsman, and a pair of fielder's choice play where the defender threw home instead of to to first base to plate 10 runs for a 13-12 lead.
