NTL SOFTBALL: SAYRE CLOSES OUT SEASON WITH 7-3 WIN OVER SULLIVAN COUNTY (May 17, 2025)
Valley Sports ReportLAPORTE, Pa. — Senior Abbie McGaughey hit a home run in each game of Sayre "doubleheader," the second helping the Redskins to a season-ending, 7-3, win over Sullivan County in non-league softball action here Saturday afternoon.
Sayre opened the day with a 17-2 loss at Towanda Saturday morning.
Sayre 7, Sullivan County 3McGaughey and junior Rylee Lantz powered Sayre's offense in support of a strong pitching performance from senior Raegan Parrish in a 7-3 win over Sullivan County.
After leaving runners on second and third in the second inning, Sayre got on the board in the third inning with a two-run double from Lantz to make it 2-0.
Sullivan County closed the gap to 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Sayre answered with three runs in the top of the fifth.
Junior Olivia Thompson led off with a double, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1. After a single by Lantz, Parrish ripped a line-drive RBI double, then scored on an RBI double by McGaughey to extend the lead to 5-1.
Sullivan trimmed the deficit to 5-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Parrish led off the top of the seventh with a double, and McGaughey launched a two-run home run over the center-field fence to provide the final margin.
McGaughey homered and doubled, scored one run, and had three RBI, and Lantz had three hits, including a double, scored one run and drove in two runs to pace Sayre's 13-hit attack, and Parrish doubled twice, scored two runs, and knocked in one run.
Freshman McKenna Parrish singled and scored one run for the Redskins, while senior Mercedez Haggerty doubled, and senior Emily Chilson added a single.
Raegan Parrish earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out nine and walking two in seven innings of work.
Towanda 17, Sayre 2At Wysox, Towanda scored in every inning, including an eight-run outburst in the second inning, to roll to a 17-2 win over Sayre in NTL softball action Saturday morning.
Towanda led 9-0 after two innings, and added two runs in the third, and three more in the fourth and fifth innings.
McGaughey's solo home run over the center-field fence in the third inning put the Redskins on the board, and an RBI double by Lantz in the fourth knocked in Sayre's other run. Those were Sayre's only hits in the game.
McKenna Parrish also scored a run for the Redskins.
Sayre wraps up the season at 4-14.
