COLLEGE SOFTBALL: ATHENS GRAD VANFLEET EARNS THIRD-TEAM ALL-EMPIRE 8 HONORS FOR FRESHMAN SEASON AT ELMIRA (5 PHOTOS) (2025-05-19)

ELMIRA — Athens grad Ashlyn VanFleet wrapped up her freshman softball season at Elmira College as a third-team all-Empire 8 Conference all-star.

VanFleet, who started 30 of the Soaring Eagles 33 games, hit .337 (30 hits in 89 at-bats) with three doubles, three triples, 17 runs scored, seven RBI, and six stolen bases.  She walked eight times, was hit by a pitch four times, and struck out just 10 times, and had an on-base percentage of .416.

She had nine multi-hit games, including six in an eight-game stretch, and seven of her last 13 games. Over the last 13 games, VanFleet hit .457 (21 hits in 46 ABs) with two doubles, two triples, three RBI and 11 runs scored.

On April 22, VanFleet was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI in a 13-6 win over Keuka College. The next day, she was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored, and one RBI in a 7-5 win over Hartwick College.

Defensively, she had a .970 fielding percentage, with three errors in 100 defensive changes. She threw out five runners attempting to steal.

Elmira wrapped up the season at 12-24-1.
