OWEGO — Seniors Erin Luther and McKenzie Williams, and juniors RaeAnne Feeko and Emily Shiner powered a Tioga offense that banged out 18 hits behind the 1-hit pitching of 8th-grader Kate Kithcart in a 20-0 five-inning rout of Marathon here Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the Section IV, Class C softball playoffs.

"It was a great game by our team as a whole to start out sectional play," said Tioga coach Stephanie Hills.

"Kate (Kithcart) pitched a great game," she noted. "And, the whole team did their part offensively making solid contact while up to bat tonight."

Kithcart allowed just a lead-off single in the fourth inning, while striking out seven and walking none in a five-inning performance to earn the win.

The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead in the home half of the first inning on a two-out, two-RBI double by Shiner.

Tioga took total command of the contest in the second inning, pouring 14 runs across the plate to up their lead to 16-0.

The rally started with a one-out two-run double by Feeko to extend the lead to 4-0, and also featured a two-run single by Luther, RBI singles by Shiner, Kithcart, junior Raegan Foley, another two-run double by Feeko to make it 13-0. The rally was capped by an RBI triple off the bat of Shiner.

The Tigers added four more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Luther, an RBI single by Williams, and an RBI double by junior Lilly Mezzatesta.

Feeko was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored, and four RBI, while Shiner had three hits, including a triple and a double, two runs scored, and four RBI, Luther was 3-for-3 with a double, four runs scored, and three RBI, and Williams had three hits, two runs scored, and one RBI to lead the Tigers at the plate.

Kithcart and Foley each singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in one run, while sophomore Jade Keaty singled and scored two runs, Mezzatesta doubled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, and 8th-grader Irie Lynch scored two runs, and had one RBI.

Tioga, now 13-3, will host 11th-seeded Southern Cayuga Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
