DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (9-10-11): WELLSBORO KNOCKS OFF SAYRE, 7-5 (2025-06-15)
Valley Sports ReportWELLSBORO — Wellsboro led 4-3 after a wild first inning, and held on for a 7-5 win over Sayre here Sunday afternoon in the opening game of pool play in the District 15 Little League 9-10-11 Division baseball playoffs.
Sayre scored three runs on one hit — a single by Xander Harris, five base on balls, and a hit batsman to take a 3-0 lead, but Wellsboro rapped out a triple, a double and a single in a four-run rally.
Wellsboro scored single runs in the second and third innings to take a 6-3 lead, before Sayre closed the gap to 6-5 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning in a rally that included an RBI groundout off the bat of Blakelee Kithcart.
Sayre loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fifth on a pair of walks and a single by Lucas Wolcott, but a strikeout ended the rally.
Wellsboro answered with a run in the home half of the fifth to up its lead to 7-5, and Sayre was retired in order to end the game in the top of the sixth.
Wolcott singled twice and scored one run, and Parrish singled and scored one run to account for Sayre's three hits, while Gavin Roof scored a pair of runs, Jackson Shannon scored one run, and Kithcart and Alex Pelensky each had one RBI.
Wolcott had the best turn on the mound for Sayre, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out three and walking one in two innings.
Sayre returns to action Tuesday at Athens.
