DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (JUNIORS): ATHENS STRIKES EARLY IN 9-2 WIN OVER SOUTHERN TIOGA-BRANT; FINISHES POOL PLAY AT 3-0 (2025-06-17)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Athens scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, and cruised to a 9-2 win over Southern Tioga-Brant here Tuesday evening in pool play action in the District 15 Little League Juniors Division baseball playoffs.
Athens finishes pool play with a 3-0 mark and will host an opening-round game against Southern Tioga-Brant in bracket play on Thursday.
Trenton Lynch provided the key hit in the first inning with a two-out, two-run single to cap the inning.
Athens plated two runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead, and two more runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 8-1.
Evan Westerfield singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs to lead Athens at the plate, while Lynch singled, scored one run, and knocked in two runs, and Anthony Johnson singled and scored two runs.
Wes Alderfer singled, scored one run, and had one RBI in the win, while Kenson Hugo added a single, Cooper Hugo scored two runs,
Brady Boor drove in one run, and Elijah Delancey and Emmitt Kingsley each crossed the plate once
Delancey started on the mound for Athens, pitching three innings of scoreless one-hit ball with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Westerfield allowed one run on one hit and walk one walk in one inning, while striking out three.
Lynch allowed one run on two hits and five walks in 1 2/3 innings, and Brad Shores struck out two in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
