DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (MAJORS): ATHENS RALLIES IN BOTTOM OF SIXTH TO EDGE RTL, 2-1 (20 PHOTOS) (June 18, 2025)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Athens scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a 2-1 win over RTL to close out pool play at 2-0 in the District 15 Little League baseball Majors Division playoffs.
Athens will now host the winner of Friday's opening-round game between Sayre and Tunkhannock on Sunday at 4 p.m.
RTL limited Athens to two hits through five innings and led 1-0 entering the home half of the sixth.
Carter Johnson led off the inning with a triple into the gap, and Rowan Morales was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and third.
With one out and Morales on second base after advancing on defensive indifference, Jace Smith walked it off with a line-drive two-RBI single up the middle.
Johnson tripled and scored one run, and Smith singled and drove in two runs to pace Athens at the plate, while Morales singled and scored one run, and E.J. Glielmi added a single.
Jacob Keene started on the mound for Athens, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out five and walking three.
Brady Shores earned the win in relief, striking out five and walking one in three-innings of no-hit relief.
