DISTRICT 6 LITTLE LEAGUE (MAJORS): HORSEHEADS BLANKS WAVERLY, 11-0, IN POOL PLAY OPENER (24 PHOTOS) (2025-06-22)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — Horseheads scored three runs in the third inning to break open a close game on its way to an 11-0 win over Waverly here on hot and rainy Sunday in the opening game of pool play in the District 6 Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.

Horseheads took the lead with an unearned run in the top of the first inning.

Waverly, which did not record a hit in the contest, had its best scoring opportunity in the home half of the first inning.

Levi Couse was hit by a pitch with one out, and Brody Payne and Liam Barton were each hit by pitches with two outs to load the bases. Cole Rylott then ripped the first pitch down the first-base line, but the Horseheads first baseman snared the liner to end the threat.

Bryce Wolcott worked a one-out walk in the third inning, but was the only Waverly batter to reach base after the first inning.

Horseheads added a run in the second and three more in the fifth extend its lead to 5-0.

After scoring another run in the fifth inning, Horseheads salted the game away with five runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Payne, who started for Waverly, had the best turn on the mound for the red-and-white, allowing five runs — one earned — on four hits, while striking out three and walking three in three innings of work.

Waverly returns to action Thursday at Elmira.
