DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (11U): WELLSBORO HOLDS OFF ATHENS, 6-4, IN SEMIFINALS (20 PHOTOS) (2025-06-21)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Wellsboro built a six-run lead midway through the game and held on for a 6-4 win over Athens here in the semifinals of the District 15 Little League baseball 11U baseball playoffs on a steamy Sunday evening.
Wellsboro's win avenges a 13-12 loss to Athens in pool play.
Wellsboro took the lead immediately with two runs in the top of the first inning.
Wellsboro extended its lead to 6-0 with four runs in the third inning.
After stranding runners on second and third in the first two innings, Athens got on the board in the third inning on an RBI single by Bentley Stephens to make it 6-1.
Athens scored three more runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Brennan Congdon, and a two-run double by Maddox Kreider to close the gap to 6-4.
Athens put two runners on base in the fifth inning on a pair of walks, and also worked a two-out walk in the sixth, but couldn't push a run across the plate.
Stephens singled twice and drove in one run to pace Athens at the plate, while Kreider doubled and had two RBI, and Tucker Owens and Bentley Arcesi each singled and scored one run.
Congdon singled and drove in one run in Athens' eight-hit attack, while Hall doubled, Leo Loziere added a single, and Austin Briggs scored one run.
Hall had the best turn on the mound, striking out four and walking one in three innings of one-hit relief. Loziere struck out one and walked one in one-third inning.
Athens will host Sayre Tuesday in the consolation bracket semifinals.
