DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL (MAJORS): ATHENS ADVANCES TO CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND WITH 8-1 WIN OVER TROY (23 PHOTOS) (2025-06-23)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Athens scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to blow open a close game on its way to an 8-1 win over Troy here in the winner's bracket finals of the District 15 Little League softball Majrs Division playoffs here on a scorching hot Monday evening.
The game, which was played in a heat index of 105, moved briskly through three innings with Troy lead 1-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, Teriana Orshal walked and Bryn Bishop reached on an error to start the inning. With one out, Haylee Bickhart stroked a two-run single to give Athens a 2-1 lead.
After Athens ace Molly McGrath retired Troy in order in the top of the fifth, her team gave her six runs of support to extend the lead to 8-1.
Orshal started the rally with a two-run single, and Lucy Cole added a two-run single, with another run scoring on an error, to make it 7-1. Cole later scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring.
McGrath, who retired the last eight batters she faced, set down Troy in order, striking out the final two batters, to end the game.
McGrath earned the win, tossing a no-hitter. She fanned 13 and walked one.
Orshal singled, scored two runs, and had two RBI, and Cole singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs to pace Athens' five-hit attack, while Bickhart singled and had two RBI.
Harper Liechty tripled and scored one run in the win, while Sadie Wanck singled and scored one run, Bishop scored two runs, and Kendall Butcher crossed the plate once.
Athens will face the winner of Wednesday's consolation bracket finals between Towanda and Troy on Friday at Wysox.
