DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (MINORS): ATHENS BLOWS GAME OPEN IN FINAL AT-BAT; TOPS NEBALL, 21-13 (24 PHOTOS) (2025-06-27)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Athens scored 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning to blow open a close game in a 21-13 win over NEBall in the semifinals of the consolation bracket here Friday evening in the Minors Division of the District 15 Little League baseball playoffs.
Athens will now host Southern Tioga Sunday at 4 p.m. the consolation bracket finals.
Athens had just six hits, and took advantage of 15 base on balls and three NEBall errors in the win.
Athens, playing as the visitors, scored five runs in the top of the first inning, and four more in the top of the second to take a 9-2 lead.
NEBall rallied with five runs in the bottom of the third inning to close the gap to 9-7, but Athens answered with two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take an 11-7 lead.
NEBall scored a run in the home half of the fourth and another in the fifth to trim the deficit to 11-9.
Jorey Raupers stroked an RBI single to start the scoring in the top of the sixth inning, and Jett Raupers knocked in a run with a squeeze bunt to make it 13-9.
Three walks, a wild pitch, and an RBI single by Briley Owens pushed the led to 15-9. Kaleb Chambers added an RBI single and Daniel Bowman delivered a two-RBI double as Athens added six more runs in the rally.
NEBall took advantage of five base on balls, a hit batsman, an error, and a wild pitch to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Owens singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run to pace Athens at the plate, while Bowman doubled, scored two runs, and had two RBI, Chambers singled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run, and Hudson Glielmi and Joey Raupers each had one hit, scored three runs, and drove in one run.
Giovanni Sharpe scored two runs and drove in two runs in the win, while Jase Blair and Jett Raupers each scored two runs and drove in one run, Colson Bishop scored one run and had two RBI, and Moyer Campbell crossed the plate once.
Sharpe had the best turn on the mound for Athens, allowing two runs on one hit in 2 1/3 innings to earn the win. He fanned seven and walked four.
