VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: ATHENS' HILEY HEADLINES SUPER 7 AS 'GIRLS ATHLETE OF THE SPRING' (2025-06-28)

THE VALLEY —  Sophomore Gretchan Hiley had a season for ages, and led Athens to its first-ever District 4 title. She is the 2025 Valley Sports Report "Girls Athlete of the Spring."

Hiley was simply dominant in the pitcher's circle, posting a 19-2 record with a 1.11 ERA, a 0.81 WHIP, 266 strikeouts and just 43 walks in 133 innings. She allowed 65 hits, and opposing batters hit .127 against her on the season.

Hiley tossed six shutouts, including three in a row, and a pair of combined shutouts (both with her sister, junior Maddie Hiley). She threw five complete-game one-hitters, including a 1-0 loss to North Penn-Liberty, and five two-hitters.

Offensively, Hiley hit .400 (28 hits in 70 ABs) with nine doubles, one triple, 13 RBI, 28 runs scored, and six stolen bases. 

She drew nine walks, and was hit by two pitches for a .470 on-base percentage. She also had a .557 slugging percentage for an OPS of 1.027.

Abby Burgess, junior, Athens:
Consistently a triple- or quad-winner throughout the regular season, Burgess led Athens to its 10th straight NTL title with two first- and two second-place finishes at the league championships.

At the District 4, Class AAA Championships, Burgess hit the state standards in the 100- and 200-meter sprints to earn a trip to States. She finished second in the 100 in 12.26 seconds (state standard 12.5), and third in the 200 at 25.18 (25.6 state standard). She also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash.

At States, Burgess qualified for the finals — by .01 seconds — with the eighth-fastest time of 12.43 seconds. In the finals, Burgess ran a personal-best time of 12.12 seconds to bring home a fourth-place medal. ... She finished 23rd in the 200 in 26.14 seconds.

Addison Westbrook, senior, Waverly:
Westbrook was a two-sport performer for the Wolverines, and had a tremendous season on the gridiron.

Westbrook hauled in 65 receptions for 980 yards, and 15 TDs — all school records. She also rushed for more than 100 yards, and two TDs. In Waverly's two playoff games, she has 11 catches for 157 yards and two TDs, and ran the ball three times for 75 yards, and one score.

Defensively, Westbrook had a school-record 12 interception, including a school-record four pick-6s.

Westbrook finished sixth in the discus at the Section IV, Class C Track & Field Championships.

Sara Bronson, senior, Athens:
Bronson, another top point-getter for the Wildcats during the regular season, also posted two first- and two second-place finishes to help Athens to its 10th straight NTL title.

At the District 4, Class 3A Championships, Bronson finished third in the 800-meter run in 2:21.31, but earned a trip to States when the top two finishers scratched out of the event. She finished second in the 1,600-meter run, but missed the state standard by one second, clocking in at 5:08.17.

At States, Bronson finished 27th in 2:20.01.

RaeAnne Feeko, junior, Tioga:
Feeko hit .647, with 43 hits in 67 at-bats, including 13 doubles, two triples, and seven home runs. She also had 37 RBI, 40 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases.

Feeko walked six times and hit by pitches five times for an on-base percentage of .692. She had a slugging percentage of 1.209 for an OPS of 1.901.

Feeko was one of the best defensive shortstop in the area with great range and a strong arm. She also had a 1-0 record in the pitcher's circle with 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched.

Breanne Robinson, senior, Waverly:
Robinson turned in a strong regular season, leading Waverly in nearly every match, posting a nine-hole average of 45.5.

Robinson, who qualified for States as a sophomore, but missed by 1 spot last year, finished sixth at the Section IV Championships with a round of 92.

Robinson shot a 95 on Day 2 of the New York State Championships to move up 17 spots on the leaderboard. She had a two-day total of 202 for 79th place.

Kate Kithcart, 8th-grader, Tioga: Kithcart was a standout on both sides of the ball for the Tigers in her first varsity season.

Kithcart took over the pitching duties early in the season and posted a 9-3 record with a 2.46 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. She struck out 71 and walked 12, while allowing 68 hits in 74 innings.

At the plate, Kithcart hit .469 (30 hits in 64 ABs) with six doubles, two triples, 21 RBI, 21 runs scored, and four stolen bases. She worked eight eight walks for a .469 on-base percentage, to go along with a .625 slugging percentage for a 1.153 OPS.
