SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — Brendan Cooke homered in his first two at-bats to propel Athens to a 13-3 six-inning win over District 13 champ Danville here Sunday afternoon in the opening game of the Section III Little League Seniors Division baseball playoffs.

Cooke belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Athens a quick 2-0 lead.

He delivered a three-run blast in the third inning to make it 5-0.

Danville got on the board in the top of the fourth inning to close the gap to 5-1, but Athens responded with four runs in the home half of the fifth inning, highlighted by Alex McQuay's RBI single, to extend the lead to 9-1.

Danville plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to trim the deficit to 9-3, but Athens answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Duncan Thetga started the scoring in the sixth with a two-run single to make it 9-3, and Colin Congdon followed with an RBI single that scored a second run on an outfield error to end the contest.

Cooke homered twice, scored four runs, and had five RBI, and Brady Flynn singled twice and scored four runs to pace Athens' 10-hit attack, while Kam Wheeler singled twice and scored one run.

Thetga singled, scored two runs, and had two RBI in the win, while, McQuay and Congdon each singled and drove in one run, Hunter Brennan added a single, and Peter Bertsch had one RBI.

Flynn started on the mound for Athens, allowing an unearned run one hit, with six strikeouts and two walks in 3 2/3 innings of relief.

Wheeler picked up the win, allowing two runs on three hits, with two strikeouts and one walk in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Cooke pitched a perfect inning of relief with two strikeouts.

Athens plays District 12 champ South Williamsport Monday at 5: 30 p.m. in winner's bracket finals.
