SECTION III LITTLE LEAGUE (SENIORS): ATHENS PULLS OUT 7-6 WIN OVER DANVILLE IN CONSOLATION BRACKET FINALS (2025-07-01)

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — Athens scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning, and a much-needed insurance run in the seventh inning to pull out a 7-6 win over Danville here Tuesday evening in the consolation bracket finals of the Section III Seniors Division baseball playoffs.

Athens broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the third inning.

Alex McQuay led off the frame with a single, and Nolan Raupers followed with a double.

With one out, Kam Wheeler knocked in the first run with a fielder's choice, and Brendan Cooke made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly. Athens tacked on a run on a Danville error.

Danville answered with a run in the home half of the inning to make it 3-1.

Cooke stroked an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning to give Athens a 4-1 lead, but Danville answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Duncan Thetga led off the sixth inning with a single, and Hunter Brennan added a one-out single to put runners on second and third. Athens took a 6-5 lead on an infield throwing error.

Brady Flynn tacked on an insurance run with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning, as Danville closed the gap to 7-6 with a run in the bottom of the inning, and left the would-be game-tying run on first base.

Thetga singled twice and scored one run, while Cooke singled, scored one run and had two RBI, McQuay singled and drove in two runs, and Connor Davidson singled and scored two runs.

Raupers doubled and scored one run in the win, while Flynn singled and knocked in one run, Brennan singled and scored one run, and Wheeler scored one run and had one RBI.

Wheeler started on the mound for Athens, allowing four runs — two earned — on two hits, with nine strikeouts and four walks in 4 2/3 innings.

Kade Rowe earned the win, allowing two runs — one earned — on one hit, with two strikeouts and three walks in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Athens squares off with South Williamsport in the championship round Wednesday, needing two wins to claim the title.
