DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (MAJORS): ATHENS BLANKS WELLSBORO; ADVANCES TO CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND (2025-07-02)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Jacob Keene came up one out shy of a complete-game no-hitter, but Connor Robinson finished it off to lead Athens to a 6-0 win over Wellsboro in the finals of the consolation bracket here Wednesday in the District 15 Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.
Athens advances to a championship-round match-up against Elk Lake Friday at 1 p.m. Athens needs two wins in the double-elimination tournament.
Keene fanned 11 and walked four in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win. Robinson recorded the final out finish of the win.
Athens, playing as the visitors, had five hits and six base-runners in the first four innings, but the game was scoreless heading into the fifth.
Brady Shores led off the top of the fifth with a double, and Robinson worked a walk. Shores and Robinson both scored on an error to make it 2-0.
Kruze Payne led off the top of the sixth with a single. With two outs and Payne on third base, Carter Johnson stroked an RBI single into left field to extend the lead to 3-0.
E.J. Glielmi followed with a line-drive RBI triple into right field, and scored on an RBI single by Easton Hubbard to push the lead to 5-0.
After a single by Keene, Shores ripped a line-drive double to cap the rally, and provide the final margin.
Keene struck out the first two batters in the home half of the sixth inning, and Robinson retired the only batter he faced on a line drive back to the mound.
Shores doubled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run, while Glielmi tripled and singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, and Johnson and Hubbard singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run to pace Athens' 12-hit attack.
Payne and Robinson each singled and scored one run in the win, while Casyn Rowe and Keene each added a single.
