LEGION BASEBALL (19U): WAVERLY'S AULT, PIPHER HELP HILLCREST TO DISTRICT 6 TITLE (2025-08-02)

ONEONTA — Waverly's Ronin Ault, who was named the tournament MVP, and Jack Pipher recently helped the Hillcrest Post #1194 to a District 6 19U American Legion baseball tournament championship.

Hillcrest, based in Binghamton, beat the Oneonta Green Wave, 7-4, in 12 innings, in the semifinals, and topped Endicott Post #82, 9-3, in the championship game.

In the semi-final win, Ault doubled and singled, scored two runs, drove in two runs and stole one base.

Ault also allowed three runs on four hits, with six strikeouts and four walks in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision.

Ault, who walked and scored in the first inning to give Hillcrest a 1-0 lead, stroked a two-out, two-RBI double in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3.

In the top of the 12th inning, Ault singled with a runner on first to put runners on first and second with no outs. He later scored to give Hillcrest a 5-3 lead on its way to a 7-3 lead after 11 1/2 innings.

In championship game, Hillcrest rallied to beat Endicott Post #82, 9-3.

Endicott scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead, but Hillcrest rallied with five runs in the sixth inning and three more in the top of the seventh.

Pipher walked twice and scored two runs, and Ault walked and scored one run.

Pipher also recorded the final out of the game on the mound.

A week later, Hillcrest was 0-2 at the N.Y. State Tournament.

Ault 3-for-4 with two RBI, but was tagged with the loss on the mound in the first game. Pipher was 0-for-4 at the plate.

In the second game, Ault was 2-for-3 with a triple, one run scored and one RBI, while Pipher was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.

On the season, Hillcrest posted a 14-7-1 record.

Ault hit ..474 (18 hits in 38 at-bats) with four doubles, and one triple and 14 RBI. He had an on-base percentage of .556 with a .658 slugging percentage for a 1.213 OPS.

He also had a 1.56 ERA on the mound.

Pipher hit .462 (18 hits in 39 ABs) on the season, with an on-base percentage of .563, a slugging percentage of .576, and an OPS of 1.139.
