HICKS, SAXON PACE WILDCATS IN THIRD-PLACE FINISH

TOWANDA — Towanda had home-field advantage, and took advantage of it to post a first-place finish here in the first NTL match of 2025 at the Towanda Country Club, snapping Athens' 22-match league win streak.

Towanda carded a four-player aggregate score of 323, while Wellsboro was second at 355, Athens was third at 358, and North Penn-Mansfield was fourth at 367. (Click here to the full team scoreboard.)

Towanda's Boom Thompson and Owen Savercool shared low-medal honors with rounds of 79, and teammate Graham Welles finished third with an 80. Jason Wickwire finished out the Black Knights' top four with an 85, which was good for eighth place on the day.

The Wildcats posted a 5-2 record on the day, and saw their win streak, which dates back to the 2021 season, come to an end.

"Short and sweet, as a whole, our team struggled some today, not the way we were looking to come out and start our season, but we always struggle at this course," said first-year coach Shane Saxon. 

"We will get back to work see what we can do this Thursday," added Saxon.

Returning state qualifier, junior Eli Hicks led Athens with an 84, which was sixth on the day, while freshman Jacob Saxon carded an 88, and sophomore Ty Owen shot a 90.

Sophomore Brooke Lyon added a 96 for the Wildcats, while juniors Lucas Greninger and Zaine Campbell shot non-scoring rounds of 97 and 98.

Junior Shaine Strickland led Sayre with a 98, and sophomore Caleb Grover added a 137.
