NTL SPORTS: A BRIEF LOOK BACK AT THE 2024 FALL SEASON (2025-08-13)

FOOTBALLTroy wrote nearly all the NTL football headlines last fall, reeling off 16 straight wins on its way to becoming the league's first-ever state champion.
The Trojans were simply dominant in running through the regular season with a 10-0 record, outscoring NTL opponents by an average of 55.8 to 11.4 en route to an 8-0 league record.
Troy's closest game in its District 4 title run was a 63-27 shellacking of South Williamsport in the quarterfinals. The Trojans beat defending state champion Southern Columbia, 69-28 in the semifinals.
In the state playoffs, Troy beat Bedford 42-16 in the quarterfinals and Riverside 28-0 in the semis, before pulling out a thrilling 25-24 win over Central Clarion in the Class AA title game.
Elsewhere in the NTL Large School, Towanda was 5-1 in league play, and advanced to the Class AA semifinals, while Athens and Canton each finished 5-6 and lost their opening game of District play.
Muncy ran through Small School league play at 8-0 to post an 8-2 overall record, then thumped Line Mountain 42-6 to win a District 4, Class A title.
The Indians eventually lost to eventual state champion Bishop Guilfoyle, 21-6, in the state semifinals.
Sayre finished the season at 1-9 with its only coming against Northwest Area.
GIRLS SOCCERTroy ran through the NTL slate with a 12-0 mark to repeat as league champion, then won a postseason game to reach the District 4, Class AA semifinals.
Williamson was second in the NTL at 10-3, while Athens was 9-3. Both teams lost their openers in District 4 play.
BOYS SOCCERWellsboro cruised through NTL play with a 12-0 mark on its way to a 15-5 record. The Hornets season ended with a loss in the District 4, Class AA semifinals.
Athens was second in the league at 7-3-2, while Williamson and North Penn-Liberty were each 7-4-1, and Towanda was 6-6.
Athens beat Shikellamy, 1-0, in the Class 3A semis, before dropping a 2-0 decision to top-seeded Selinsgrove in the finals, while Williamson and NP-L each lost their District openers.
VOLLEYBALLTroy won the Large School with a 13-1 NTL mark, edging out Wellsboro, which was 12-2, while NEB and Williamson each finished 11-4 in the Small School.
Athens was 1-7 in Large School play, and 5-12 overall, while Sayre was 0-10 in Small School play, and 0-16 overall to run its losing streak to 66 consecutive matches.
NEB and Wellsboro each won District 4 titles.
GOLFAthens enters the season as the four-time defending NTL champ, as well as the District 4 champ, and is riding a 22-match league win streak after posting a 36-0 record.
North Penn-Mansfield finished second at 27-8-1, and Towanda was third at 25-10-1.
Sayre finished 0-36.
CROSS COUNTRY
BoysTroy won the Large School title with an 8-1 record, edging out Towanda (6-2) and Athens (7-3).
Northeast Bradford won the Small School title with a 7-0 record, and Canton was runner-up at 6-4. Sayre finished the season at 0-8.
Northeast Bradford and Canton went 1-2 at the Disrtrict 4, Class A Championships, with NEB's Creed Dewing winning a gold medal. NP-Towanda placed fourth in Class AA Championships.
GirlsTowanda won the NTL title with an 8-0 record, while Athens was 8-2, and North Penn-Mansfield was 6-4.
Northeast Bradford won the Small School with a 8-1 record, while Wyalusing was runner-up at 6-3. Sayre finished at 0-5.
Towanda finished third and Athens was fifth at the Class AA District meet, while NEB was third in the Small School event.
