THE WEEK AHEAD: FIRST FULL WEEK OF 2025 FALL SEASON FEATURES SATURDAY FOOTBALL DOUBLEHEADER AT WAVERLY (2025-08-24)

THE VALLEY — The first full week of the 2025 fall sports season features a full slate of action, and wraps up Saturday with the annual Tioga-Waverly football doubleheader at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

There are 24 events on the schedule this week, including eight on Thursday, and five on Tuesday.

The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:

MONDAY (0)
•  There are no varsity events scheduled for Monday.

TUESDAY (5)
•  The Athens girls soccer team opens the 2025 season at home against Wellsboro.

•  The Waverly boys soccer team hosts Elmira in a non-league game to open the 2025 season.

•  Athens volleyball opens the season at home against Wyalusing.

•  Sayre volleyball opens the 2025 campaign at home against North Penn-Liberty.

•  The Waverly golf team hosts Norwich in its 2025 season opener at Shepard Hills.

WEDNESDAY (4)
•  The Athens golf team hosts Sayre and Wyalusing in a nine-hole match at Shepard Hills.

•  The Athens boys soccer team opens the 2025 season on the road at NEB.

•  The Tioga boys open the 2025 soccer season at home at Haggerty Field against Marathon.

THURSDAY (8)
•  The Waverly girls open the 2025 season at Memorial Stadium against Norwich.

•  The Waverly girls swim team opens the 2025 season at home against Norwich.

•  Athens hosts league rival Towanda on the girls soccer pitch at Alumni Stadium.

•  Sayre volleyball hosts Wellsboro in its second home volleyball match of the week.

•  The Tioga girls open the 2025 soccer season at Marathon.

FRIDAY (3)
•  Sayre hosts North Penn-Mansfield on the gridiron at the Lockhart Street Bowl.

•  Athens football is on the road for the first time this season at Northwest Area.

SATURDAY (4)
•  Tioga opens the 2025 football season against Windsor at Waverly's Memorial Stadium in a 3 p.m. kick off.

•  Waverly hosts defending PIAA Class AA state champion Troy to kick off its 2025 football campaign at 6 p.m. 

•  The Athens boys host Elk Lake on the pitch at Alumni Stadium in their 2025 home opener.

•  The Waverly cross country teams open the season at the Corning Relays.
