STAC BOYS GOLF: NUMBERS, EXPERIENCE HAVE WAVERLY'S FELT LOOKING FOR IMPROVEMENT IN 2025 (2025-08-25)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Waverly boys golf coach Marc Felt has good numbers, and some experience returning, which makes him believe the Wolverines can improve on last year's 2-12 record in 2025.
"Our numbers continue to rise which is awesome," said Felt. "Two years ago, I think they had six kids. Last year, we were at nine, and we’re up to 12 this year.
"We still have lots of youth, but that's a great problem to have," added Felt.
Sophomore Griff Walter is Waverly top returner, while senior Mac Talada, junior Daniel Fischer, and sophomore Daniel Brady all have a great deal of varsity experience.
"All four of our returners played in every match last year," said Felt.
"Griff (Walter) is definitely one to keep an eye on," added Felt. "He’s put in lots of work and has been really impressive this preseason."
Waverly's top newcomers are freshman Landon Munn, sophomores Logan Robinson and Trevor Allen, and senior Tammo Bruns.
"They all have the potential to help us in any given match," said Felt. "They’re getting better every day."
Seventh-grader Gabriel Cole, 8th-grader Liam Hakes, and freshmen Peyton Lawson and Karson Brunk will also vie for time this fall.
Waverly graduated a pair of seniors from the 2024 team.
"Carson McIsaac is a big loss," said Felt. "He was consistently our one or two last year.
"(McIsaac) and Devyn Kinney were both great leaders throughout practice and matches," he added.
McIsaac and Walter were the only two Wolverines to advance to the STAC Championships last fall.
Felt believes his squad will be much more competitive this season.
"I think we can compete in our division," he said. "The guys seem to want to get better and a few of them played some competitive golf throughout the summer, which is huge.
"I'm hoping our returners can improve off of last year," added Felt. "It would be great to be able to take four guys to STACs this year."
Waverly opens the 2025 campaign against Norwich Tuesday at Shepard Hills.
