Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY — The first full day of the 2025 fall sports season features five events — all season-openers, and all five of them are in the Valley.

GIRLS SOCCER
Wellsboro at Athens, 5:30 p.m.:
The Wildcats are coming off an 11-9 season that ended with a loss to top-seeded Shikellamy in the semifinals of the District 4, Class 3A playoffs, while the Hornets compiled a 5-11-2 mark in 2024.

Last year, Athens won 2-1 in overtime at Wellsboro in the season opener, then beat the Hornets, 4-1, at home later in the season.

BOYS SOCCER
Elmira at Waverly, 7 p.m.:
The Wolverines are coming off a 3-13 season in 2024, while the Express finished 12-6

Last year, Elmira scored six goals in the second-half goals to break open a scoreless tie at the half in a 6-0 win over Waverly.

VOLLEYBALL
Wyalusing at Athens, 6 p.m. JV start:
The Wildcats are coming off a 6-13 season that ended with a heartbreaking five-set loss to Shamokin in the District 4, Class 3A championship game, while the Rams were 7-13.

Last year, Athens swept Wyalusing in the season-opener.

North Penn-Liberty at Sayre, 6 p.m. JV start: The Redskins finished 2024 with an 0-16 record and a 66-match losing streak, while North Penn-Liberty was 11-9 and lost to Williamson in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Last year, NP-L swept Sayre.

BOYS GOLF
Norwich at Waverly, 2 p.m. @ Shepard Hills:
The Wolverines are coming off a 2-12 finish in 2024, while the Purple Tornados were 11-1 and the East Division champs.

Last year, Norwich topped Waverly, 205-276.
