NTL GOLF: ATHENS NOTCHES WINS OVER SAYRE, WYALUSING (2025-08-27)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Junior Eli Hicks fired an even-par 37 to lead Athens to wins over Wyalusing and Sayre here Wednesday afternoon in NTL golf action on the front nine at Shepard Hills.
The Wildcats fired a four-player aggregate score of 165 to cruise to a pair of wins in the new nine-hole NTL format. Wyalusing was 1-1 on the day with a 181, and Sayre carded a 256.
Hicks bogeyed holes 2 and 3, but came back with birdies on the par-4 6th hole, and the par-5 9th hole.
Sophomore Ty Owen shot a 40 with birdies on the par-5 5th hole, and on the 9th hole, while junior Lucas Grenninger shot a 41, including a birdie on the par-4 1st hole.
Freshman Jacob Saxon, and sophomores Brooke Lyon and Collin Congdon each shot rounds off 47.
Junior Shaine Strickland led Sayre with a 52, while junior Jordan Brown and junior Paige Secrist carded rounds of 61 and 69, respectively.
Athens, now 19-4, returns to action Wednesday at Wellsboro, while Sayre, now 0-23, hosts Towanda.
