IAC GIRLS SOCCER: MARATHON EDGES TIOGA, 3-2, IN SEASON-OPENER (2025-08-28)
Valley Sports ReportMARATHON — Marathon pulled out a 3-2 season-opening win over Tioga here Thursday afternoon in IAC girls soccer action.
"For our first game we played OK," said Tioga coach Emily Potter. "We need to focus on our offensive movement as we lack in that area.
"The entire game until about 15 minutes left in the second half, we were definitely trying to figure out how to play the game as a unit.
"In the past it hasn’t taken us as long, but unfortunately today it did, and we can only move up from here," noted Potter.
"The girls have nothing to hang their heads on, we just have improvements to make and work to do moving forward," she added.
Freshman Grace Howey scored both of Tioga's goals.
Marathon had a 9-8 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Marcy Moniz recorded six saves in net for the Tigers.
Tioga returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Southern Cayuga.
