STAC GIRLS SWIMMING: WAVERLY BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD, HITS TWO STATE QUALIFYING TIMES IN SEASON-OPENING WIN OVER NORWICH (16 PHOTOS) (2025-08-29)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — In their first swim of the season, Waverly broke a school record, and hit two state qualifying times in a 93-44 win over Norwich in STAC girls swimming action.
Senior Mira Kittle was a quad-winner, while senior Olivia Cheresnowsky and freshmen Megan Atanasoff and Audrey Kellogg were triple-winners, and sophomore Lauryn Welles and freshman Natalie Steck were double-winners.
The foursome of Cheresnowsky, Steck, Atanasoff, and Kittle opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in a school-record time of 1:50.4, a time that also qualifies the relay for States.
Kittle followed that up by winning the 50-yard freestyle in a state-qualifying time of 24.64 seconds, while Welles was second in 26.0 seconds, and freshman Ayla Wheeler was third in 28.58 seconds.
Kittle also won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.83
Kittle, Atanasoff, Welles, and Kellogg teamed to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:52.72.
And, Cheresnowsky, Atanasoff, Kellogg and Welles teamed to win the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:42.1.
Cheresnowsky won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:09.12, and freshman Brynna Twedt was second in a personal-best time of 1:11.06.
Twedt won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:42.6.
Kellogg won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 57.55 seconds, and Wheeler was second in 1:06.53.
Steck won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:12.71.
Senior Lizzie Robinson finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:22.96, and Isabella Miner was third in a personal-best time of 2:25.56. Harper Varano also swam a personal-best time of 2:47.39.
Robinson was also second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:36.35, and Miner was third in a personal-best time of 7:37.1.
Waverly is off until it hosts the Waverly Invitational on Sept. 6.
