ATHENS — Senior Olivia Thompson scored the game's only goal midway through the first half, and that was all the Athens defense needed in a 1-0 win over Towanda here Thursday night in NTL girls soccer win.

"It's a good bounce-back win," said Athens coach Rich Pitts. "I am so proud of the girls and how hard they worked tonight, holding a team to no shots showed how dedicated to who we are."

With the game scoreless, Elizabeth Delinger played a ball behind the defense, and Thompson settled it, and drove a shot past the keeper to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Athens held a 13-0 advantage in shots-on-goal in the game and had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Athens returns to action Thursday in a non-league contest at Bloomsburg.
