IAC BOYS SOCCER: TIOGA FALLS TO DEFENDING SECTION IV, CLASS C CHAMP SOUTHERN CAYUGA (2025-08-30)

Valley Sports Report
POPLAR RIDGE, N.Y. — A young Tioga squad traveled to face defending Section IV, Class C champ Southern Cayuga, and the results were what you might have expected.

The Chiefs poured it on in a 16-0 IAC crossover boys soccer match here Friday afternoon.

"That's a tough team to play with no subs," said first-year Tioga coach Donnie Van Dusen.

"However, I believe we had a few positives with the first 30 or so minutes," he noted. "We made some good runs and the positioning was very positive compared to Wednesday.

"We also played with a lot more aggression and weren't pushed off the ball as easy," continued Van Dusen. "Playing with no subs got us gassed and opened the gates for them.

"I'm proud of the boys, they played hard and i saw some definite positives," he added. "Every kid on the sidelines after the game was ready to keep working and improving, and to me that's a huge step in the right direction."

Southern Cayuga had a 32-2 advantage in shots on goal.

David Van Dusen had 12 saves in net for the Tigers.

Tioga, now 0-2, returns to action Thursday night when it hosts Newfield.
