NTL GIRLS SOCCER: PATTON POWERS ATHENS TO 2-1 WIN OVER NP-M (24 PHOTOS) (2025-09-06)

MANSFIELD — Junior Delanie Patton scored two goals to lift Athens to a 2-1 win over North Penn-Mansfield here Saturday in NTL Large School Division girls soccer action.

"It was another great game from the girls," said Athens coach Rich Pitts. "They keep progressing on what we are working on. 

"I thought we did a great job in possession, and had a ton of chances," added Pitts.

The Tigers scored 17 1/2 minutes into the game, and led 1-0 for about 13 minutes.

With 9:28 remaining in the first half, the Tigers were whistled for a foul in the box, and Patton converted on a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1.

A little more than six minutes into the second half, junior Brinley Nichols tackled the ball away from an NP-M player near midfield and fed the ball to Patton in the open field. Patton took a couple dribbles and fired a shot into the side of the net to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.

The Athens defense allowed just one shot-on-goal in the second half.

The Wildcats had a 21-5 advantage in shots-on-goal, and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore Annika Lezak recorded two saves in net for the Wildcats

Athens, now 2-1, travels to defending champion Troy Wednesday.
