THE VALLEY — A busy Monday of sports action in the Valley is highlighted by Waverly girls tennis hosting Elmira in the program's first-ever match.

VOLLEYBALL
Watkins Glen (1-0) at Tioga (0-1), 5 p.m. JV start: The Tigers are coming off a season-opening loss to Lansing Wednesday, while the Lake Hawks swept Newark Valley.

Over the weekend, Tioga won its pool at the Corning Tournament, but lost to Lansing in the semifinals of the Gold Bracket, while Watkins Glen finished third and was eliminated in the Silver Bracket at the Campbell-Savona Tournament.

BOYS SOCCER
Newark Valley (0-2) at Tioga (0-2-1), 4:30 p.m.: The Tigers are coming off a 2-2 tie with Newfield Friday, while the Cardinals dropped an 8-0 decision to Southern Cayuga.

FIELD HOCKEY
Tioga (0-2) at SVEC (2-1), 4:30 p.m.: The Tigers are coming off a loss to Afton-Harpursville, while the Eagles are coming off a 1-0 win over Owego.

GOLF
Athens (19-5-1), Canton (3-25) at Cowanesque Valley (9-16), 4:30 p.m. @ River Valley Golf Course.

Sayre (0-23), Wyalusing (11-16) at Wellsboro (19-7), 4:30 p.m. @ Tyoga Country Club.

BOYS GOLF
Owego (2-3) at Waverly (0-3), 4 p.m. @ Shepard Hills: Both teams have been off since Aug. 28 when the River Hawks topped Windsor, 218-244, and the Wolverines fell at Oneonta, 226-260.

GIRLS TENNIS
Elmira (0-4) at Waverly, 5 p.m.: Waverly plays its first-ever girls tennis match, hosting Elmira, which is coming off a 7-0 loss to Johnson City Thursday.

JV FOOTBALL
Athens at Canton, 6 p.m.
Montgomery at Sayre, 6 p.m.
