NTL CROSS COUNTRY: ATHENS GIRLS TOP WELLSBORO; BOYS FALL (18 PHOTOS) (2025-09-09)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Wellsboro claimed two of the top three spots, but Athens' depth prevailed in a 25-35 win here Tuesday afternoon in NTL girls cross country action, while the Wildcat boys dropped a 21-35 decision.
GIRLS
Athens 25, Wellsboro 35Alissa Vough finished second in a time of 21:14 to pace the Wildcats.
Vough was sandwiched in between race winner Lauren Kosek (20:11) and her younger sister, Kaci Kosek (23:16).
The Wildcat trio of senior Ava Hughes (24:42), sophomore Marlene Roelle (25:21), and senior Karolin Roelle (25:55) finished fourth through sixth, respectively, and senior Haylie Horton (27:05), freshman Adaline Burnett (27:45), and sophomore Tatyana Nasser (28:13) were eighth through 10th.
BOYS
Wellsboro 21, Athens 35Wellsboro had five of the top seven finishers to win a 21-35 decision.
Juniors Jacob Shores (17:50) and Matt Rossettie (19:22) finished third and fourth, respectively, for the Wildcats.
Corbin Smith finished eighth for Athens in a time of 22:53, and Andrew DeForest was ninth in 22:57.
Freshman Micah Simwale finished 11th for the Wildcats in 23:51, and junior Camden Knapp was 14th in 24:36.
Athens returns to action Tuesday at Wyalusing.
JUNIOR HIGH
BoysAthens' Rowan Morales won the junior high boys race in a time of 11:12, and Nico Rossettie was fifth in 12:22.
GirlsEvelyn Owen led a sweep of the top four spots by Wildcats, clocking in at 12:58.
Allie Lyon (13:10), Sadie Wanck (13:13) and Paisley Smith (14:07) finished second through fourth, respectively.
