STAC BOYS SOCCER: DESPITE 7-0 LOSS TO SETON CC, WAVERLY'S RANKIN SEES POSITIVES (22 PHOTOS) (2025-09-11)

WAVERLY — Seton Catholic scored five first-half goals on its way to a 7-0 win over Waverly here Thursday night in STAC Central Division boys soccer action at Memorial Stadium.

Despite the outcome, Waverly coach Jon Rankin took a lot of positives from the game.

"Overall, it was a promising game," he said. "The board doesn’t show how much these boys have grown as a team and as players.

"Even though we lost tonight, we are becoming the team I know we are," added Rankin.

Gregorio Morales scored a pair of goals in the first half, and Jake Della-Verde, Nate Yuhnick, and Will Wasser each scored one goal.

"In the first half, we got caught high, and dove in on some plays," said Rankin. "Seton is a strong team and they’re well- coached."

Rankin gave kudos to several of his players for their performances.

"Cohen Kraft had an incredible game," he said. "The scorebook doesn’t truly reflect his impact on the game. When he is one of the smallest kids on the field fighting for the ball and winning it, something great is bound to happen.

"Trent VanDyke and Collin Wheeler did a phenomenal job being patient and utilizing space to carry the ball and create opportunities. 

"We had a few chances tonight for Hayden Roskow, Jesse Lantz, and Peyton Robinson, but they were inches away from finding the back of the net," he added. 

Waverly, now 0-5, travels to Owego Saturday at 6 p.m.
