Valley Sports ReportMILFORD, Pa. — Delaware Valley scored a pair of first-half goals and made them stand in a 3-0 win over Athens here Saturday afternoon in non-league girls soccer action.
"It was a good battle versus a very good (Class) 4A team," said Athens coach Rich Pitts.
"We made some uncharacteristic mistakes that cost us the game and also just couldn't find the net," added Pitts.
The first damage done against the Wildcats was self-inflicted with an own-goal to give Delaware Valley a 1-0 lead.
The Warriors added another goal late in the first half, and tacked on another after the intermission.
Athens had an 8-7 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Annika Lezak had three saves in net for Athens.
Athens, now 2-3, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Wyalusing.
