STAC GIRLS SOCCER: WAVERLY FALLS AT CHENANGO FORKS, 3-1 (2025-09-15)
Valley Sports ReportBINGHAMTON — Chenango Forks scored early in the second half to take a two-goal lead on its way to a 3-1 win over Waverly here Monday night in STAC girls soccer action.
"We reverted back to making mistakes that we didn’t in our last contest," said Waverly coach Tara Hogan.
"We fell into a trap of our players depending and relying too heavily on someone else to cover for them," she added.
Waverly had a couple chance early, but were able to capitalize.
"This was another game that we saw the girls have a strong start," said Hogan. "We showed up to the game with a lot of energy."
Forks' Aubrey McMullen scored about nine minutes into the game to give Forks a 1-0 lead.
Both defenses ruled the remainder of the half, and the Blue Devils led 1-0 at the intermission.
Maya Rullo, off a feed from Grace Hogan, gave Forks a 2-0 lead just three minutes after the intermission.
Waverly had a chance to get on the board, but its penalty kick "was shot directly at the Forks goalie."
McMullen scored her second goal with 24 minutes remaining to give the Blue Devils a 3-0 lead.
Gianna Soprano put the Wolverines on the board with 15 minutes remaining in the contest. After beating a Forks defender, Soprano was pushed down in the box by the keeper, then drove the penalty kick into the net to make it 3-1.
Despite a few chances, Waverly could get no closer.
"We ended the second half with having some more opportunities with our forwards chasing the ball down, but we just weren’t able to capitalize," Hogan said.
Hogan praised the play of several of her players.
"Gianna Soprano had a fantastic game and has such great energy," she said. "Kaylin Twedt and Kait Sutton both contributed to trying to put something together at the top of the field.
"Maci (Wheeler), Makenzie (Olmsted), Kendall (Rockwell), and Haley (Larrabee) had their hands full with Forks' fast forwards," she noted.
"It didn’t help that Haley Larrabee went down injured in the second half, but Maddie Cron stepped up and filled the position well," added Hogan.
Forks had a 15-9 advantage in shots-on-goal, and both teams had one corner kick.
Claire Clonch had four saves in net for the Wolverines, and freshman Taylin Gonzalez added five.
Waverly, now 2-4-1, hosts Chenango Valley Wednesday night.
