H.S. CROSS COUNTRY: ATHENS' SHORES LEADS VALLEY CONTINGENT AT 'DASH IN THE DARK;' HINE PACES WAVERLY, WOOD LEADS TIOGA (2025-09-20)
Valley Sports ReportOWEGO — Athens junior Jacob Shores posted a top-20 finish to lead the Valley contingent, which also included runners from Waverly and Tioga, here at the second annual "Dash in the Dark" at Owego Free Academy.
There were 302 boys runners combined between varsity (179) and JV (123) field, and 186 more in the junior high race.
Powerhouse Corning won the Large School Division (and overall) team title, tallying 22 placement points, with runners finishing first, second, third, fifth, and 11th. The Hawks' place-holders finished 13th and 20th.
Owego finished second in the team standings with 92 points, and Nanuet was third with 107 points. Athens finished eighth in the Large School standings with 188 points and Waverly was eighth with 195 points.
Shores clocked in at 17:09.1 to finish 19th, and junior Matt Rossettie was 31st in 17:35.8.
Senior Parker Wanck finished 82nd in 19:28.2 for the Wildcats, while junior Corbin Smith was 119th in 20:47.4, and senior Andrew DeForest was 124th in 20:58.1. Freshman Micah Simwale was 154th in 22:38.1.
Junior Chase Hine paced Waverly's efforts with a 38th-place finish in a time of 18:02.6, while sophomore Hayden Montanye was 71st in 18:56.5, and freshman Braiden Judson was 72nd in 18:56.9.
Junior Jayden Washington was 88th for the Wolverines in 19:39.1, and freshman Colten Santalucia was 106th in 20:28.8. Sophomore Garrett Akins was 161st in 23:23.3.
Senior Talon Wood led Tioga with a 51st-place finish in a time of 18:31.6, while freshman Logan Bensley was 169th in 26:05.5, and sophomore Carter Allen was 175th in 27:58.2.
JV BOYS
Athens' Kamden Knapp finished 51st in the JV race in a time of 21:58.2, and Darious Miller was 116th in 29:56.3.
JUNIOR HIGH BOYS
Tioga's Mason Rink was the Valley's top competitor in the junior high boys race, finishing 57th in a time of 11:38.2, and Andrew Mills was 120th in 13:34.5.
Athens' Landon Linblad was 123rd in a time of 13:41.6.
Waverly's Michael MacNeal finished 139th in a time of 14:34.6.
