THE WEEK AHEAD: ANOTHER BUSY WEEK AS THE FALL SEASON CHUGS ALONG (2025-09-21)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The fall season continues to chug along with another busy week, which includes just one home (Tioga) football game on Friday, and a busy Saturday at Athens with three teams (boys and girls soccer, and volleyball) all hosting games.
There are 35 events on the docket this week, including nine Thursday — all of them in the Valley, and seven each on Tuesday and Saturday.
The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:
MONDAY (4)• Waverly hosts Chenango Valley on the links at Shepard Hills.
TUESDAY (7)• Waverly hosts unbeaten Owego on the volleyball hardwoods.
• Tioga volleyball hosts divisional rival Newark Valley.
• Tioga hosts Notre Dame, Newark Valley, and Watkins Glen in its only home cross country meet of the season.
• Sayre hosts Athens and NP-M in a cross country meet at Riverfront Park.
WEDNESDAY (4)• The Athens boys host Williamson in an NTL soccer contest.
• Waverly hosts Seton Catholic on the pitch and under the lights at Memorial Stadium.
• The Tioga boys host Groton in a Small School crossover match.
• Tioga field hockey hosts SVEC under the lights at Haggerty Field.
THURSDAY (9)• Tioga hosts IAC North power Lansing on the volleyball hardwoods.
• Athens hosts NTL powerhouse Troy on the soccer pitch at Alumni Stadium.
• The Waverly girls swim team hosts Susquehanna Valley.
• Sayre hosts division-leading Williamson in a key volleyball match-up.
• Athens hosts Troy on the volleyball hardwoods.
• Waverly volleyball hosts Chenango Forks.
• Waverly tennis host Windsor.
• Waverly golf hosts Seton Catholic at Shepard Hills.
• The Waverly boys host Seton Catholic under the lights at Memorial Stadium.
FRIDAY (4)• Tioga hosts arch-rival and divisional opponent Newark Valley on the gridiron at Haggerty Field
• Waverly football travels to Johnson City.
• Athens football is on the road at Wellsboro.
SATURDAY (7)• Sayre football is on the road at Northwest Area.
• The Athens girls host Williamson on the soccer pitch at Alumni Stadium.
• Athens volleyball hosts non-league foe Selinsgrove.
• The Athens boys host Wellsboro on the soccer pitch.
• Athens cross country runs at the prestigious McQuaid Invitational.
