STAC BOYS SOCCER: ROBINSON LEADS WAVERLY TO 3-1 WIN OVER NEWARK VALLEY (2025-09-23)
Valley Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY — Senior Peyton Robinson had a hand in all of Waverly's goals in leading the Wolverines to a 3-1 win over Newark Valley here Tuesday afternoon in non-league boys soccer action.
"The boys played very well tonight," said Waverly coach Jon Rankin. "They moved the ball well and took some good chances that almost went in.
"Peyton Robinson was a game-changer for us," noted Rankin. "Not only did he assist on each goal, but he also found the back of the net off a corner kick deflection that was on its way up the field. He hustled the whole game and helped on both sides."
James Cole put the Wolverines on the board early in the game with his second goal of the season, but the Cardinals tied the game up moments later on a goal by Elijah Williams.
In the 16th minute of the game, Robinson scored his third goal of the season off a corner kick to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead, which it carried into the halftime intermission.
Andrew Larrabee added an insurance goal for the Wolverines early in the second half to provide the final margin.
Waverly had a 27-9 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Aiden Doherty had six saves in net for the Wolverines.
Waverly, now 2-8, returns to action Thursday at Seton Catholic.
