STAC GIRLS SOCCER: FIVE DIFFERENT PLAYERS SCORE IN WAVERLY'S 5-0 WIN OVER SETON CATHOLIC (24 PHOTOS) (2025-09-24)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — Five different Waverly players scored goals, including four in the first half, in a 5-0 win over Seton Catholic here Wednesday night in STAC Central Division girls soccer action at Memorial Stadium.

"Our possession was really stepped up this game," said Waverly coach Tara Hogan. "We are very comfortable on our home field and do very well with finding each other.

"There was a sense of calm, which was good to see as we can get frazzled at times," she added.

Hogan was pleased with her team's performance on the offensive end.

"Maci Wheeler was moved about and took eight fantastic corners that we were able to capitalize on," said Hogan. Two of our goals were direct results of corner kicks.

"It was also nice to see some great, strong shots," she noted. "We have been pushing shooting focus during our practices and it was nice to see some power behind our shots and with the rain being a slip factor, we capitalized."

Waverly's first goal came after junior Ryleigh Judson took a cross from sophomore Lilliana Boothby-Schoonover and ripped it into the net to make it 1-0 with 31:42 remaining in the first half.

About 10 minutes later, junior Makenzie Olmsted took a corner kick from sophomore Maci Wheeler and deposited it in the net to make to 2-0.

Five minutes later, sophomore Kaylin Twedt took the ball away from a Seton Catholic player, outran the defense and beat the keeper 1-v-1 to make it 3-0.

With 4:37 remaining in the half, Boothby-Schoonover ripped a shot from 30 yards out, and the Seton keeper mishandled it at the near post, with the ball squirting into the goal to extend the lead to 4-0.

Moments after a corner kick, Wheeler picked up a loose ball and fired a long shot that eluded the keeper to make it 5-0 just three minutes into the second half.

Waverly had a 20-6 edge in shots-on-goal, and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior Claire Clonch recorded two saves in net for the Wolverines, and freshman Taylin Gonzalez had three saves.

Waverly, now 5-4-1, returns to action Oct. 1 at Owego.
