NTL GIRLS SOCCER: LATE SURGE LIFTS TROY TO 5-2 WIN OVER ATHENS (24 PHOTOS) (2025-09-25)

Valley Sports Report
ATHENS — Troy scored three goals in the second half to pull away from Athens in a 5-2 win here Thursday night in NTL girls soccer action at Alumni Stadium.

Troy, now 11-1 overall, is 7-0 in league play, and holds a three-game lead over the closest team in the standings.

"It was a great game by both teams," said Athens coach Rich Pitts.

"I thought we really played a strong second half and hung with them in the first half.

"I am proud of how hard we played and the chances we had to finish as I thought we pressed them in moments," noted Pitts.

"Congrats to Troy they are a great team and well-coached," he added.

Saydi Renzo and Alexis McRoberts each scored two goals for the Trojans, and Giana Renzi had two assists.

Kylee Roy put the Trojans on the board in the opening minutes of the game.

Freshman Bilikula Wennie scored her first varsity goal with 10:46 remaining in the first to tie the game at 1-1, but McRoberts found the back of the net six minutes later to give Troy a 2-1 lead, which it would carry into the halftime intermission.

Junior Delanie Patton scored about 10 1/2 minutes into the second half to tie the game at 2-2, but the remainder of the game was all Troy.

Midway through the second half, Renzo scored on a long free kick to give the Trojans a 3-2 lead, and about 3 1/2 minutes later, McRoberts scored on another long free kick to extend the lead to 4-2.

Renzo finished the scoring with 3:51 left in the game to provide the final margin.

Troy had a 16-6 edge in shots-on-goal.

Lezak recorded 10 saves in net for the Wildcats.

Athens, now 6-3 overall and 5-3 in NTL play, hosts Williamsport in non-league action Saturday.
