H.S. CROSS COUNTRY: WAVERLY, ATHENS FINISH IN TOP-20; ATHENS' SHORES, WAVERLY'S HINE LEAD VALLEY CONTINGENT AT PRESTIGIOUS McQUAID INVITE (24 PHOTOS) (2025-09-27)

Valley Sports Report
ROCHESTER — The Waverly and Athens boys both placed in the top-20 here Saturday morning in the Varsity A-1 (Small School) race at the prestigious McQuaid Invitational here at Genesee Valley Park.

Athens junior Jacob Shores and Waverly junior Chase Hines led the Valley contingent.

BOYS
Waverly placed 18th with 626 placement points and Athens was 19th with 661 points in a field of 50 full teams, and 384 runners.

East Aurora won the team title with 72 placement points, while Troy placed sixth with 317 points, Northeast Bradford was 11th with 396 points, and Wellsboro was 17th with 613 points.

Hine led Waverly with a 49th-place finish in a time of 17:08.1 on the 3-mile course, while sophomore Hayden Montanye was 87th in 17:58.2, and freshman Braiden Judson was 99th in 18:10.4.

Junior Jayden Washington was 202nd for the Wolverines in 19:35.8, while freshman Colten Santalucia was 247th in 20:07.0, and sophomore Garrett Akins was 342nd in 22:31.3.

Shores led the Wildcats with a 32nd-place finish in a time of 16:45.6, while junior Matt Rossettie was 50th in 17:12.3, and senior Parker Wanck was 140th in 18:37.8.

Junior Corbin Smith was 206th for Athens in a time of 19:37.2, while senior Andrew DeForest was 303rd in 21:13.6, and freshman Micah Simwale was 328th in 22:02.8. Junior Kamden Knapp was 366th in 23:40.8.

GIRLS
Athens finished 28th with 685 placement points in a field of 33 full teams, and 319 runners.

South Jefferson won the team title with 67 placement points, while Chenango Forks was 12th with 413 points, Lansing was 19th with 492 points, NP-Mansfield was 22nd with 518 points, and Wellsboro was 31st with 828 points.

Sophomore Marlene Roelle finished 115th in a time of 22:11.0, while freshman Adaline Burnett was 173rd in 23:29.8, and senior Ava Hughes was 174th in 23:31.1.

Senior Karolin Roelle finished 186th in 23:47 for the Wildcats, while junior Haylie Horton was 228th in 24:49.0, and freshman Tatyana Nasser was 268th in 25:59.4. 

Miah Correll led Waverly with a 207th-place finish in a time of 24:18.1, while Taylor Sinsabaugh was 214th in 24:27.9

JUNIOR HIGH
BOYS
Race #1 (Smallest / Small Schools)

Waverly's Michael MacNeal finished 298th in a time of 14:27.9 in a field of 339 runners.

Race #2 (Small / Medium Schools)
Athens' Rowan Morales placed 11th in a field of 278 runners on the 1.6-mile course with a time of 9:15.4, while Nico Rossettie was 39th in 9:55.9, and Landon Liddiard was 125th in 11:26.0.

GIRLS
Race #1 (Smallest / Small Schools)

Waverly's Pepper Mosier finished 124th in a time of 12:40.1 in a field of 271 runners on the 1.6-mile course.

Race #2 (Small / Medium Schools)

Evelyn Owen led Athens with a 25th-place finish in a time of 11:03.3 on the 1.6-mile course in a field of 215 runners.

Sadie Wanck finished 31st for the Wildcats in a time of 11:18.3, and Allie Lyon was 90th in 12:41.5.
