COLLEGE FOOTBALL: ATHENS GRAD MACHMER SCORES TD IN FIRST COLLEGIATE GAME AT MANSFIELD (2025-09-29)

MANSFIELD — Athens grad Matt Machmer, a freshman on the Mansfield sprint football team, scored a touchdown in his first collegiate game, a 15-8 win over the University of Pennsylvania in sprint football action at Karl Van Norman Field.

Machmer put the Mountaineers on the board with 3:23 remaining in the first quarter when he stepped in front of a pass for an interception and returned it 31 yards to paydirt to put Mansfield up 7-0.

Athens grad Damian Hudson, a freshman, saw limited action and gained 1 yard on one carry.

Mansfield returns to action Saturday when it hosts Caldwell University.
