Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Brooke Wilcox scored a pair of goals to lift North Penn-Mansfield to a 2-0 win over Athens here Thursday afternoon in NTL girls soccer action at Alumni Stadium.
"Sometimes the game is cruel and you can play your heart out and still lose," said Athens coach Rich Pitts.
"I can’t be disappointed with our effort, but our Achilles heel is putting the ball in the net," noted Pitts. "When you don’t it’s hard to win.
"We will continue to work hard and try and find a way to win games moving forward," he added.
Wilcox, off an assist from Adaline Yungwirth, found the net with 6:20 remaining in the first half to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Wilcox added an unassisted insurance goal with 25:06 left in the contest.
Athens had a 13-8 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore Annika Lezak record six saves in net for the Wildcats.
Athens, now 7-6, returns to action Friday at Chenango Valley.
