STAC GIRLS SOCCER: WAVERLY FALLS TO CHENANGO VALLEY, 1-0, IN OVERTIME (2025-10-08)
Valley Sports ReportBINGHAMTON — Chenango Valley scored about 2 1/2 minutes into overtime to pull out a 1-0 win over Waverly here Wednesday night in STAC Central Division girls soccer action.
"We were happy with our composure and passing sequences in the first half," said Waverly coach Tara Hogan. "It didn’t take long to settle down and work to find feet.
"However, we just couldn’t get that last step of successfully getting the ball to our forwards or forwards successfully getting the ball to each other," she noted.
"In the second half, Maci Wheeler had a great long shot that was fumbled by the goalie and Gianna (Soprano) positioned well to try and finish it with no luck."
The Warriors had a 24-11 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
Freshman Taylin Gonzalez record 12 saves in net for the Wolverines.
Hogan gave kudos to her team's defensive performance.
"Kait Sutton stepped in to help us on defense to allow Maddie Cron to get some time back on midfield, where she has been most of the season," said Hogan. "Kait did a great job helping and we really needed her speed.
"Makenzie (Olmsted) and Kendal (Rockwell) both worked well to clear the ball out and cover for each other," she added.
Waverly, now 6-6-1, closed out the regular season Tuesday when it hosts Horseheads for its annual Teal Out game for "Cervical Cancer Awareness."
