IAC GIRLS SOCCER: TIOGA RALLIES LATE TO TIE NEWFIELD, 2-2 (24 Photos) (2025-10-10)
Valley Sports ReportNEWFIELD — Tioga scored twice in less than two minutes late in the game to salvage a 2-2 tie with Newfield here Friday afternoon, and now the Tigers will need help to win the IAC South Small School Division girls soccer title for the second year in a row.
Newfield plays Southern Cayuga Monday and clinch the division with a win. If Southern Cayuga wins, Newfield is the champ.
"What a game," said Potter. "We really struggled to find our teammates feet this game ... we had may opportunities to score we just couldn’t execute.
"We score late ... it changes the entire pace and tone of the game and a min later we score again.
"I'm very proud of the comeback and hard work these girls displayed tonight," added Potter.
Newfield scored midway through the first half, and again about 11 1/2 minutes into the second half to take a 2-0 lead.
With 5:46 remaining in regulation, sophomore Grace Howey, off an assist from senior Sophia Haney, to close the gap to 2-1.
With 4:03 remaining, Haney, off a feed from senior Izzy Carter, found the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2.
Newfield had a 10-7 advantage in shots-on-goal, while Tioga had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Tioga, now 8-4, returns to action Tuesday at Athens.
