STAC GIRLS SOCCER: HORSEHEADS STARTS FAST IN 5-0 WIN OVER WAVERLY (2025-10-14)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Madison Ribble netted a hat trick in the first half as part of a five-goal barrage that lifted Horseheads to a 5-0 win over Waverly here Tuesday night in STAC girls soccer action at Memorial Stadium.
"We were able to hang with Horseheads and put some pressure on them for about the first 15 minutes, and then the game seemed to get away from us," said Waverly coach Tara Hogan.
"We weren’t playing to feet and were relying too much on fellow players to do someone else’s job for them.
"Horseheads put a lot of pressure on us," noted Hogan. "So much so that we had far too many disruptions in our possession efforts.
"They are a solid team with a lot of speed," added Hogan.
Ribble took advantage of a Waverly miscue about seven minutes into the game when she intercepted a pass back to the Wolverine keeper, then beat 1-v-1 to make it 1-0.
Ribble scored two more goal in less than two minutes to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead with 20:05 remaining in the first half.
Samantha Bonner about 2 1/2 minutes later to make it 4-0, and Elly Bachert finished off the scoring with 44 seconds remaining in the first half.
Horseheads had a 26-5 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Senior Claire Clonch recorded 21 saves in net for the Wolverines.
"Claire made some phenomenal save tonight," said Hogan.
"Ryleigh Judson was very aggressive in the air and was moved around a lot," noted Hogan. "She’s always willing to go wherever we need her.
"And, Makenzie Olmsted saw a little time a bit further up the field," added Hogan. "Ideally, we’d be putting her as center-defender to build up our offense, but she’s too needed as our center defender."
Waverly wraps up the regular season at 6-7-1, and now awaits word on its opening-round opponent in the upcoming Section IV, Class A playoffs.
