NTL GIRLS SOCCER: ATHENS SUCCUMBS TO FLURRY OF WILLIAMSON GOAL IN 6-4 SETBACK (18 PHOTOS) (2025-10-15)

Valley Sports Report
WESTFIELD, Pa. — Athens scored twice early, but Williamson reeled off six unanswered goals on its way to a 6-4 win Wednesday afternoon in NTL girls soccer action here at Cowanesque Valley High School.

"We had a stretch in the middle of the first half ... we just unplugged from the game and let it get away from us," said Athens coach Rich Pitts. "But down four goals in the second half, we played very hard and clawed back... just ran out of time."

Juniors Brinley Nichols and Delanie Patton scored early to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead just 7 1/2 minutes into the contest. Both goals were from deep on the left side, over the keeper's head, into the far side of the net.

The Warriors, however, answered with three goals in a seven-minute span to give them a 3-2 lead midway through the first half.

Later in the first half, Williamson scored again to take a 4-2 lead into the intermission.

The Warriors added two more goals early in the second half to take a 6-2 lead.

Patton answered with two goals to pull the Wildcats within 6-4, her second coming with 2 1/2 minutes remaining in the game.

Patton's hat trick was her second in as many nights.

Nichols, Patton, junior Brielle Mayo, and senior Elizabeth Denlinger each recorded one assist for the Wildcats.

Zeraya Wilson, Anna Lee, and Maddie Bailey scored two goals apiece for Williamson.

Athens had a 19-15 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore Annika Lezak recorded 12 saves in net for the Wildcats.

Athens, now 9-7, closes out the regular season Saturday at Bloomsburg. Game time is 11 a.m.
