IAC / STAC BOYS SOCCER: WAVERLY RIDES FAST START TO 6-0 WIN OVER TIOGA (24 PHOTOS) (2025-10-15)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — Waverly scored five goals in the first half on its way to a 6-0 win over Tioga in the season finale for both teams here Wednesday night in non-league boys soccer action at Memorial Stadium.

"Tonight was a bittersweet way to end," said Waverly coach Jon Rankin. "I’m super proud of the boys and how they played tonight. Everything they worked for this season was able to show tonight.

"We did a great job of finding passing lanes, connecting passes, maintaining possession, and taking our scoring opportunities," noted Rankin. "We found early momentum when Brayden Robbins' put one in off of a volley; that moment helped push everyone on the team to continue to play hard and help put our seniors in the spotlight. Five out of our six seniors were able to score tonight.

"These seniors were the first team I was a head coach for," he said. "Seeing them grow and seeing them turn into the people they are has truly been amazing. It’s truly been amazing seeing them grow up.

"It’s going to hurt not having them come back to the program as players," added Rankin. "I’ve had these boys for five years now, this coming season will be the first time without them. They’ve helped push this program forward into what we all know it can be."

After Brayden Robbins scored his first career varsity goal to put the Wolverines up 1-0, senior Peyton Robinson scored a pair of goals, sandwiched around a goal by Logan Roskow, to make it 4-0.

Dakota French's first career varsity goal put Waverly ahead 5-0, which is where it stood at the half.

Senior Andrew Larrabee scored the only goal of the second half to provide the final margin.

Waverly had a 28-6 advantage in shots on goal.

Junior Aiden Doherty had seven saves in net for Waverly, and Collin Wheeler added two, while Tioga junior David Van Dusen had 20 saves for the Tigers.

The Wolverines finished the season at 4-12.

"This was our best season in the STAC to this point," said Rankin. "It’s great to see and feel the progress even if it is one game at a time."

Tioga wraps up the season at 1-14.
