IAC GIRLS SOCCER: TIOGA DROPS 1-0 DOUBLE-OT HEARTBREAKER TO SOUTHERN CAYUGA IN SMALL SCHOOL TITLE TILT (20 PHOTOS) (2025-10-18)

Valley Sports Report
DRYDEN — For the second year in a row, Tioga dropped a heartbreaker in the IAC Small School Championship girls soccer match — this time a 1-0 double-overtime thriller here Saturday at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

Last year, Tioga dropped a 2-1 decision to Groton in overtime in the championship game.

"All season these girls have asked for a rematch against two teams, Southern Cayuga being one of them," said Tioga coach Emily Potter.

"We deserved every second of being at TC3 playing for the IAC title," noted Potter. "It was a very evenly-played game of soccer.

"Unfortunately it wasn’t the outcome that we were hoping for, (but) we have a lot to be proud of," added Potter. "From losing to them 5-1 the first time around to a double overtime, 1-0, loss off a direct kick is nothing for us to hang our head on; there was immense improvement on our end."

After more than 92 minutes of scoreless soccer, 8th-grader Rosemary Glennon got her head on a direct kick from freshman Haylee Young and deflected it past the Tioga keeper for the game-winner.

Southern Cayuga had a 22-7 advantage in shots-on-goal and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Marcy Moniz recorded 11 saves in net for the Tigers.

Tioga returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Marathon in the opening round of the Section IV, Class C playoffs.

"(Wednesday), we host the other team the girls have been asking for a rematch against," said Potter. "We drew these two teams again for a reason and I’m extremely excited to see what we can do (Wednesday) afternoon after the soccer I witnessed Saturday night.

"I am proud of these girls and the work they have put in, to be where we are today," she added.
