BELLES BREAKS SCHOOL-RECORD FOR DIGS (1,032), REGISTERS 1,000TH CAREER KILLValley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Waverly battled for its postseason life, but dropped a hard-fought, 3-1, decision to Chenango Valley here Wednesday night in the STAC volleyball regular-season finale.
"The game was a tough-fought match and both teams played great," said Waverly coach Hailee Rote.
"The seniors stepped up and led their team," she noted. "We are proud of the success and growth this season, and despite the loss we can walk away knowing that they left it all out on the court."
Needing a win to qualify for the Section IV, Class A playoffs, Waverly dropped the first set, 25-18, but evened the match with a 25-21 win in the second season.
Chenango Valley ended Waverly's season by pulling out wins of 25-23 and 25-21 in the next two sets.
The highlight of the night was senior Brilynn Belles registering her 1,00th career kills, and ending her career with a school-record 1,032 digs.
Belles led Waverly with 12 digs, 21 kills, and two aces, while senior Adriana Presher recorded 12 digs, and senior Addison Hunt registered 10 kills and two aces.
Rote said the season was a sign of good things to come.
"This season was a huge building year and we are showing a lot of growth in building our culture and foundation for our program."
The Wolverines finish the season at 4-12, and graduate just three seniors in Belles, Presher, and Hunt.
"The seniors were huge leaders who pushed to build a positive culture," said Rote.
"Adri, Brilynn and Addison are such wonderful players to coach," added Rote. "They made this a special season for everyone around them. I could be not be more proud of them."
