FROM THE PRESS BOX: WEEK 10 PICKS — WAVERLY-FORKS, 'RUSTY RAIL' HEADLINE WEEK'S GAMES (2025-10-24)

It's rivalry week South of the Border, but the "Game of the Week" is a budding rivalry with Chenango Forks (ranked No. 1 in Class C) invading Memorial Stadium to take on Waverly (ranked fourth in Class B).

Also on Friday, Sayre hosts Athens in the Rusty Rail rivalry game, and Tioga hosts divisional opponent Greene-Oxford.

Last weekend was a pretty good one for the VSR Pigskins Prognosticators with The Mick perfect at 11-0, Country Bob and I at 10-1, and Little Red at 9-2.

The Mick leads the pack at 77-17 and I am second at 75-19, while while Country Bob is 74-20, and Little Red is bringing up the rear at 72-22.

Without further ado, the VSR Pigskin Pickers make their picks for Week 10 (Week 9 in Pa. and Week 7 in N.Y.):

Athens (8-1) at Sayre (0-9): The Wildcats are coming off a 41-14 win over Muncy, while the Redskins dropped a 21-14 decision at home to Canton.

Athens will be playing without junior QB Connor Davidson, but his younger brother, freshman Shea Davidson, has looked good in his place. And, the younger Davidson has Karson Sipley and Brendan Cook to run the ball, and a host of receivers, led by James Friend and Gage Marmor, to throw to.

Prediction: I give a ton of credit and much respect to the 15 or 16 Sayre kids who have stayed healthy and gutted out this season, but the Wildcats are a talented bunch, even without the elder Davidsion. ... ATHENS 45, SAYRE 0.
The Mick:
Athens 48, Sayre 0 ... Country Bob: Athens 42, Sayre 0 ... Little Red: Athens 56, Sayre 6.

Chenango Forks (7-0) at Waverly (7-0):
The Wolverines are coming off a 14-7 win at Owego, while the Blue Devils rolled over Whitney Point, 43-14.

The Wolverines have exceeded my expectations this season. They've played great defense all season, and have scored enough points to win games.

Prediction: Before the season, I said Chenango Forks is the best team in Section IV, and I've seen nothing to warrant changing my mind. ... FORKS 24, WAVERLY 10.
The Mick:
Forks 16, Waverly 15 ... Country Bob: Forks 27, Waverly 20 ... Little Red: Forks 28, Waverly 14.

Greene-Oxford (0-7) at Tioga (6-1): The Tigers, ranked No. 1 in Class D, is coming off a 24-8 win over Trumansburg, while the Trojans dropped a 48-18 decision to Groton.

Prediction: Tioga's offense has been very good against struggling teams, and its defense has been good against everyone. ... TIOGA 40, O-G 6.
The Mick:
Tioga 44, G-O 6 ... Country Bob: Tioga 35, G-O 20 ... Little Red: Tioga 34, G-O 6.

Towanda (2-7) at Wyalusing (2-7): The Black Knights dropped a 34-27 decision to Tunkhannock, while the Rams dropped a 28-6 decision at Hughesville.

Prediction: Towanda is getting a bit healthier, and seems to be putting some things together. I'll take the Knights in a mild upset. ... TOWANDA 26, WYALUSING 22.
The Mick:
Wyalusing 28, Towanda 20 ... Country Bob: Wyalusing 28, Towanda 14 ... Little Red: Wyalusing 28, Towanda 14.

Troy (8-1) at Canton (2-7):
The Trojans are coming off a 70-29 win over Central Mountain, while the Warriors slipped past Sayre, 21-14.

Prediction: I think the Trojans can write their own score. ... TROY 56, CANTON 0.
The Mick:
Troy 56, Canton 0 ... Country Bob: Troy 60, Canton 0 ... Little Red: Troy 49, Canton 0.

Owego (4-3) at Johnson City (1-5): The River Hawks are coming off a 14-7 loss to Waverly, while the Wildcats dropped a 58-0 decision to Maine-Endwell.

Prediction: Owego's three losses are by a combined 10 points to a trio of state-ranked teams — Chenango Forks (No. 1 in Class C), Waverly (fourth in Class B), and M-E (10th in Class B). ... OWEGO 34, JC 6.
The Mick: Owego 24, JC 8 ... Country Bob: Owego 27, JC 6. Little Red: Owego 28, JC 0.

Groton (3-3) at SVEC (5-2): The Eagles are coming off a 48-19 win over Newark Valley, while the Red Hawks rolled over Greene-Oxford, 48-18.

Prediction: SVEC has a trio of very good athletes — Logan Aman, Charlie Hilbert, and Jakobe Foster, who do a lot of damage to mediocre teams. ... SVEC 42, GROTON 6.
The Mick:
SVEC 28, Groton 21 ... Country Bob: SVEC 27, Groton 0 ... Little Red: SVEC 28, Groton 6.

Wellsboro (5-4) at North Penn (4-5): The Hornets are coming off a 55-8 win over Northwest Area, while the Tigers dropped a 35-8 decision at Cowanesque Valley.

Prediction: Wellsboro is fairly young and vastly improved, while North Penn has dropped five straight. ... WELLSBORO 47, NORTH PENN 15.
The Mick:
Wellsboro 36, North Penn 13 ... Country Bob: Wellsboro 35, NP 6 ... Little Red: Wellsboro 42, NP 12.

Cowanesque Valley (5-4) at Montgomery (8-1): The Indians rolled to a 35-8 win over North Penn-Mansfield, while the Red Raiders cruised to a 42-14 win at South Williamsport.

Prediction: Cowanesque Valley has had a very good season, but Montgomery is legit. ... MONTGOMERY 36, CV 12.
The Mick:
Montgomery 36, CV 16 ... Country Bob: Montgomery 42, CV 13 ... Little Red: Montgomery 28, CV 14.

Northwest Area (2-7) at South Williamsport (5-4): The Rangers dropped a 55-8 decision to Wellsboro, while the Mounties lost 42-14 to Montgomery.

Prediction: South Williamsport needs a win to lock up a postseason berth. No problem. ... SOUTH 54, NW AREA 6.
The Mick:
South 44, NW 0 ... Country Bob: South 42, NW 0 ... Little Red: SW 35, NW 7.

Hughesville (3-6) at Muncy (5-4): The Spartans are coming off a 28-6 win over Wyalusing, while the Indians dropped a 41-14 decision at Athens.

Prediction: With a win, Hughesville, now 10th in Class AA, could slip into the top eight and a postseason berth, but the Indians could play spoiler. ... MUNCY 27, HUGHESVILLE 19.
The Mick:
Hughesville 36, Muncy 12 ... Country Bob: Muncy 28, Hughesville 13 ... Little Red: Muncy 28, Hughesville 13.

Trumansburg (5-2) at Newark Valley (3-4): The Blue Raiders are coming off a 28-6 loss to Tioga, while the Cardinals dropped a 48-19 decision to SVEC.

Prediction: Newark Valley has won the games it should, but has struggled agains the top teams in Class D, and Trumansburg is one of the top teams with big-play potential and a solid defense. ... T-BURG 42, NV 19.
The Mick:
T-Burg 24, NV 8 ... Country Bob: T-Burg 35, NV 6 ... Little Red: T-Burg 34, NV 21.
