SECTION IV GIRLS SOCCER: TOP-SEEDED TRUMANSBURG BLANKS TIOGA, 6-0, IN CLASS C QUARTERFINALS (2025-10-26)

Valley Sports Report
TRUMANSBURG — Top-seeded Trumansburg was as good as advertised, rolling to a 6-0 win over Tioga here Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class C girls soccer playoffs.

"Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what we were hoping for, but like I have always said — 'it’s anyones game on any given day,' (Saturday) just wasn’t our day," said Tioga coach Emily Potter.

"We struggled to connect our passes and pick our heads up to find feet," she added. "The nerves definitely took over and we had a tough time."

Eleanor Ouckama scored a pair of first-half goals to give Trumansburg a 2-0 lead at the intermission.

Four different girls found the net in the second half, including three in a six-minute span midway through the half.

Trumansburg had a 25-1 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Marcy Moniz had 11 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Tioga wraps up the season with an 8-8-1 record, including the second postseason win in program history — a 3-0 victory over Marathon Wednesday.

"(Saturday's) game does not define the team these girls are," said Potter. "One bad game does not define what our season looked like and the effort, drive, and determination these girls put in day in and day out to get to where they made it.

"From our first game this season to post season, I had two completely different teams," noted Potter. "This group of girls learned to collaborate, love, push, and drive one another to be the team they became.

"It didn’t happen over night and that shows in our game scores from the beginning to the end.

"I am extremely proud of how well they turned their season around and were able to become a team," she added. "The chemistry is what we were lacking in the beginning and that soon came."

The Tigers will graduate four seniors in the program's all-time leading goal-scorer in Sophia Haney, as well as defenders Izzy Carter, Emily Zwierlein, and Raegan Foley.

"We are certainly going to miss our seniors next season as my entire back line graduates," said Potter. "We had a solid back line that has worked together for a few years and have been able to trust, and grow together.

"It’s now time to groom some others to do the same.

"Losing Sophia (Haney) from our Grace (Howey)-Sophia duo is going to hurt," she noted. "The trust the two of them have in one another to be where they need them to be for support on the field is going to be a struggle for us to lose.

"Those two have the knowledge of very well-rounded soccer players and work immensely well together.

"I am hoping I have someone I can groom to do the same that Sophia did with Grace," added Potter. "I have high hopes that moving this young player to work with Grace in the center will be just what we need to be next season."

Led by Howey, the Tigers will return a lot of experience in 2026 and beyond.

"We are going to miss our seniors," said Potter. "They made a big impact on this team and it’s going to be hard to fill their shoes, but we are a really young team and we had a lot of young players getting a lot of experience and time on the field.

"The future looks really bright this team is going to be good for years to come," noted Potter. "I wouldn’t be surprised if we are right back where we left off next year.

"Our goal in the off season is to work and fill the shoes of those who are leaving us.

"I am extremely proud of this team and sad to see the season end," added Potter. "To watch these girls play the game was fun. We knew how to play soccer and move the ball around to create opportunities. I can only hope that we can continue to put the work in the offseason to pick up where we are leaving off."
