COLLEGE SPRINT FOOTBALL: ATHENS GRAD MACHMER FINDS END ZONE AGAIN IN MANSFIELD'S WIN OVER CORNELL (2025-10-26)

MANSFIELD — Athens grad Matt Machmer, a freshman on the Mansfield University sprint football team, had his second TD catch in as many games to help the Mounties to a 27-13 win over Cornell University here Saturday afternoon at Karl Van Norman Stadium.

Machmer hauled in a 31-yard TD pass in the t=hird quarter. It's his second catch of the season, for a total of 65 yards, and his second TD reception.

Machmer also had an interception — his third of the season — and one solo tackle.

On the season, Machmer has 12 tackles, including eight solo stops. He also returned one of his interceptions for a TD and has 91 return yards.

Machmer is also handling the punting chores for the Mounties. He has punted 10 times for an average of 30.9 yards. He has one punt of 50-plus yards, and has hit two punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

Athens grad Damian Hudson, also a freshman, also contributed with 15 rushing yards on seven carries. He also had one tackle and one pass break-up.

For the season, Hudson has 69 yards on 21 carries.

Mansfield, now 4-1, returns to action Saturday at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia.
